Just north of the bustling city of Tacoma, across the famous and beautiful
Narrows Bridge, lies the picturesque village of Gig Harbor. The newest addition, a second Narrows Bridge, which will be completed in 2007. Residents enjoy one of the finest views in the Puget Sound area. The calm
waters of their tiny harbor, with Mount Rainier towering in the background,
have inspired hundreds of thousands of photographs and postcards over the years. With over 100 miles of waterfront, the Gig Harbor district area covers approximately
107 square miles on the Olympic Peninsula. This includes Fox sland, Longbranch
Peninsula and the city of Gig Harbor. There has been significant growth,
but Gig Harbor still has the look, feel and fresh salt-air smell of a small
fishing village. History of Gig Harbor: Today: The Gig Harbor Peninsula School District is ranked the highest in Pierce County,
providing many athletic and extra curricular activities for children. Other
important Gig Harbor area features include; complete medical facilities for
urgent care and same day surgery, the Tacoma Narrows Airport and three new,
full-service, lodging facilities. A nice variety of Bed and Breakfast inns
are available as well as fine dining with views, several golf courses and
a public driving range. The people who live in Gig Harbor and the surrounding area enjoy what few
residents of other Puget Sound communities have been able to do: they are winning
the war against urban sprawl. This cozy community is relaxed and likes it that
way. One visit to this peaceful community and you will experience the scenic beauty
and discover why we call it home.
